Street and Pedestrian Lighting
Purpose
To provide requirements for streetlight construction projects.
Who Must Comply?
Streetlight projects located in the franchise area within the geographical boundaries of the City and County of San Francisco

We are here to help developers understand the street and pedestrian lighting requirements and processes in the City and County of San Francisco. Please contact the streetlight engineer reviewing your project for the most up to date information. Please note that drawings provided are markups approved for current use.
General steps for successful installation of streetlights

- Project owner fills out Streetlight Review Request.
- SFPUC will review photometrics and work with the Project Owner to establish streetlight locations, pole types and luminaire types. Please reference below for SFPUC approved catalog streetlight materials.
- Apply for new unmetered service(s) or request to use an existing service.
Please see streetlight guidelines for directions on how to apply and/or request to use an existing service. - Project owner will revise streetlight plan to include service point information
- SFPUC will work with the Project Owner to review and approve the streetlight plans.
- SFPUC will issue a Streetlight Inspection Service estimate.
Estimates will eventually move towards a fee-based system and will collect funds through CSB. - Project owner submits Streetlight Inspection Service fees.
Please note that Streetlight Inspections cannot be scheduled until payment is provided. - Project owner fills out Inspection Request Form.
Send at least 15 business days before to schedule an inspection of: a) All streetlight infrastructure before pour and b) Final inspection - The project owner receives an approval of the above from PUC inspector. (email is OK)
- The project continues with the construction of the foundation, installation of poles and lights and all other items as necessary.
- Project owner submits an Inspection Request Form to request a Final Inspection.
Streetlights should be installed and operational. Sidewalk should be finished. - SFPUC will provide punchlist items to the Project Owner
- Project Owner will address punchlist items.
Project Owner will also provide as-builts, final submittals, and warranty information to SFPUC. - SFPUC will provide a Notification of Streetlight Acceptance for the Project Owner.
This notification indicates that the SFPUC will close the streetlight improvement portion of the project and indicates that streetlight ownership and maintenance responsibilities for the new streetlights have been accepted by the SFPUC.

- Request to (permanently or temporarily) remove, install, or upgrade SFPUC and/or PG&E streetlights. Streetlight Removal Request
- Request to relocate streetlight infrastructure that does not have new streetlight work. Streetlight Relocation Request
- Request to inspect streetlight. Streetlight Inspection Request
- Request sidewalk work when project is only replacing sidewalk like in kind with no street improvements. Sidewalk Review Request

- Streetlight Infrastructure Variance: Whenever a developer would like to request a variance form the streetlight guidelines, please fill out this form and send to the streetlight engineer working on the project
- Inspection Request: Request pre-construction meeting and inspections for all infrastructure before pouring and final inspection
