Commercial Washer Rebate
SFPUC customers can receive a rebate of up to $1,000 for eligible Energy Star water-efficient commercial grade clothes washers installed in laundromats, commercial properties, or common area laundry rooms of multi-family properties.
See our Residential-Washer Rebate Program for qualifying Energy Star washers serving single-family homes or individual apartments or condos.
Eligibility Requirements:
- The property where the clothes washer is installed has an active commercial or multi-family SFPUC water account.
- Commercial grade machines must be installed in commercial properties or in the common area of a multi-family property.
- The qualifying Energy Star commercial clothes washer was purchased and installed within 90 days of submitting your application.
- Previously rebated machines will only be eligible for replacement rebate if they have been in place for a minimum of 10 years.
- If you are not the water account holder, you will need to provide their written approval: Account Holder Release Form
To Apply
Step 1
Verify that your Energy Star commercial washer is eligible and was purchased in the last 90 days.
Step 2
Review the Program Terms & Conditions and Release of Liability
-
Program Terms & Conditions and Release of Liability
- The washer must be installed prior to rebate approval.
- A separate application must be submitted for each account number.
- Applicants must complete a post-inspection conducted by SFPUC staff to verify installation before the rebate is approved.
- The purchased or leased washer must be new and on the current qualified product list of approved Energy Star models. Only the exact model numbers listed will qualify for a rebate.
- For leased equipment, a new signed contract is required with a minimum of 5-year agreement. The contract must list the make, model number and serial number of washers installed.
- Rebate amount is not to exceed the purchase price (not including sales tax).
- The proof of payment submitted must indicate the itemized cost of the washer(s). Receipts and/or invoices that do not include the itemized cost of the washer(s) will be rejected.
- Please allow approximately 12 weeks for processing after all applicant requirements have been met.
Rebate Agreement – Release of Liability
The SFPUC may deny any application that does not meet the requirements. The applicant agrees to allow the SFPUC to inspect washing machine installations as a condition to obtaining a rebate. Funding for this program is limited to available resources. Rebates are processed on a first come, first serve basis. The SFPUC reserves the right to alter this program at any time.
SFPUC shall bear no responsibility or liability for the cost, expense, operation, maintenance, or repair of a participant’s commercial clothes washing machine. SFPUC shall likewise bear no responsibility or liability for delay in accepting an application, rejection of an application, or termination of the program.
Step 3
Gather all necessary materials to complete online application as our portal cannot save partial applications.
- SFPUC Water Account and Account Holder/Name on Water Account
- Installation Address
- Applicant’s contact information (name, phone, email)
- Washer purchase information: purchase date, installation date, price, manufacturer, model number
- Itemized Proof of Payment clearly showing the delivery address is the same as the installation address. (Our system cannot accept HEIF attachments)
- Washer Retailer: email, phone, address, or website for online retailers
- Any required release forms
Step 4
Apply Online for your Rebate
- If you haven’t applied for any previous SFPUC conservation assistance, you’ll be prompted first to register for our application portal.
- Click APPLY NOW under the commercial washing machine icon and complete the application.
- Rebate application and W-9 must be completed within 90 days of purchase.
- After completing the online application, send a completed and signed IRS Form W-9 to the San Francisco Controller’s Office. You can email them to supplier.management@sfgov.org or you can mail a hard copy to: Supplier Management, 1 Dr. Carlton B Goodlett Place, Room 300, San Francisco, CA 94102.
Rebates cannot be issued without a W-9 form on file with the Controller’s Office. This is because some people receive $600 or more in rebates from the City of San Francisco in a year. These people will receive an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Form 1099 and may have to pay federal taxes. The Social Security number you provide in the application will remain confidential. The SFPUC operates under the terms of the Privacy Act. Social Security numbers will not be shared with people or organizations outside the Controller's Office. The SFPUC's request for Social Security or Tax ID numbers follows federal law. This law is the Federal Privacy Act of 1974, 42 UCS 405 (c) (2)(c).
Step 5
Confirm the date for a SFPUC conservation technician to conduct an onsite verification inspection. We will contact you to schedule the visit.
