Garden Workshops
Garden for the Environment (GFE) is a nationally acclaimed half-acre education and demonstration garden that supports small-scale urban ecological food production, organic gardening and composting. The garden features low-water use and climate appropriate plants, efficient irrigation and conservation-friendly design. It demonstrates best practices such as composting, planting the right plants in the right place, attracting beneficial bugs, using less-toxic products and methods, and planting native and climate appropriate plants. It is open to the public and located at 7th Avenue and Lawton Street in San Francisco. The SFPUC sponsors low-cost workshops at Garden for the Environment to help San Francisco residents create and maintain beautiful and water-efficient gardens.

Visit the Water-Wise and Natural Plant Care Demonstration Gardens
Our agency sponsors a demonstration garden in partnership with Garden for the Environment. The Water-Wise Demonstration Garden features low-water use and climate appropriate plants, efficient irrigation and conservation-friendly design. The Natural Plant Care Demonstration Garden features examples of best practices such as composting, planting the right plants in the right place, attracting beneficial bugs, using less-toxic products and methods, and planting native and climate appropriate plants. The Demonstration Garden is open to the public and is located at 7th Avenue and Lawton Street in San Francisco.
