Stormwater runoff from construction sites is a major source of pollution that can degrade water quality in the San Francisco Bay. To reduce the discharge of pollution to the local storm drain system and prevent infrastructure damage, the City adopted the Construction Site Runoff Ordinance in 2013. We work with restaurants and food service establishments to help prevent these pollutants from entering and clogging our sewer system. Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) can be a major problem for our City’s sewers. When poured down the drain, FOG hardens inside sewer pipes, constricting wastewater flow and clogging the pipes.
