Asset Protection Standards
The City of San Francisco is a dynamic and evolving urban environment. In order to enhance public safety and the streetscape experience, the City is continually working to improve public right-of-ways through programs such as the Better Streets Plan and Complete Streets Policy. As a City agency, we support these programs through investments and innovations in water, wastewater, power, and green stormwater infrastructure. In order to continue to best serve the community while complying with the complex regulatory environment as a water and wastewater utility, we developed the Standards linked below for the protection of the City’s existing water and wastewater assets. The Standards support streetscape innovation while enabling effective and reliable delivery of water and conveyance of stormwater and sewage and while preserving infrastructure functionality and accessibility during planned and emergency operations.
Please note that these standards do not govern the new installation of water and wastewater assets. For new utility installations, refer to the appropriate subdivision regulations, project plans and/or project specifications.
