The Southeast Community Center (SECC) is proud to announce the launch of the SECC Access Program, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at providing digital equity for residents of Bayview-Hunters Point. This program, developed in collaboration with the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC), the Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development, and Five Keys Schools and Programs, addresses the pressing need for technological resources and digital literacy in the community.
The SECC Access Program was born out of valuable insights gathered from a comprehensive 2020 community survey that actively sought input from Bayview-Hunters Point residents regarding their desired programs and services at the new community center.
Recognizing the significance of digital inclusion, the SECC Access Program offers a technology loaner program, digital skills classes, and free co working space to empower community members with the tools and skills needed to thrive in the digital age. The program empowers individuals of all ages and backgrounds.
Dennis Herrera, the General Manager of SFPUC, expressed his enthusiasm for the SECC Access Program, stating, "Through the SECC Access Program, we are taking a significant step towards digital equity in Bayview-Hunters Point. By providing laptops and iPads to community members, we are not just addressing the immediate need for technology but also opening doors of opportunity for education, employment, and personal growth."
