The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) is teaming up with the San Francisco Giants again to promote the importance of water conservation. The agency is excited to use the Giant’s extensive outreach platform to remind fans from the Bay Area and beyond to reduce water waste.

Launching July 25 and running through the end of the baseball season, this campaign comes at a critical time as the hot summer months see the region’s highest water usage. After a wet winter, it’s especially important to remind customers about being water smart even if most of California is not currently in widespread drought.

“We’re grateful that the rain this winter allowed us to end the Water Shortage Emergency Declaration and the temporary drought surcharge. But we also know that climate change has increased weather variability, and there will be more droughts in the future. This means that every drop counts and conservation is the best way to safeguard our water supply,” said SFPUC General Manager Dennis Herrera.

As part of this partnership, water conservation messages will be visible to Giants fans attending games at Oracle Park. The messages will appear on LED screens on the concourse, directional signage, and in a public service announcement playing on the scoreboard before each game. The public service announcement features Giant’s mascot Lou Seal and Director of Field Operations Greg Elliot highlighting the water saving measures they’ve implemented in the ballpark and sharing the SFPUC’s conservation tips. These include fixing leaks, watering only in the morning or evenings, and replacing lawns with less thirsty plants.

The SFPUC is thrilled to partner with the Giants to help fans take advantage of the agency’s many resources to save water. Our water is too valuable to waste, so the SFPUC hopes fans will step up this summer to be water saving giants.
