Hetch Hetchy Power Helps Energize New Southeast Family Health Center

The Southeast Family Health Center, a new 22,000-square foot full-service neighborhood clinic, run by the Department of Public Health, had its ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 14. The Family Health Center is an expansion of the existing Southeast Health Center site at 2401 Keith Street. Mayor London Breed, Board of Supervisors President Shamann Walton, SFPUC Commissioner and former Supervisor Sophie Maxwell, and other City officials were in attendance to officially open its doors.

Located in the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood, the Southeast Family Health Center provides accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare to meet the increasing need of health services for residents and expands a vision to support the ongoing health of the Bayview-Hunters Point community.

The SFPUC is proud to be a partner and supporter of this vision and project. The new health center is powered by the SFPUC’s Hetch Hetchy Power, which provides 100% greenhouse gas-free electricity to municipal, residential, and commercial customers in San Francisco. The SFPUC also provided close to $1 million in funding for the project’s clean energy infrastructure, which includes a 72kw rooftop solar array and 24 electric vehicle charging stations for health center employees. These environmentally friendly features will help the facility achieve a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification, which is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement and leadership. 

The Southeast Family Health Center is part of a legacy of community-driven health advocacy in Bayview-Hunters Point. It expands on the original Southeast Health Center, which first opened its doors in 1979, providing critical services for residents in the area. The Southeast Health Center is one of the busiest clinics in the San Francisco Health Network and serves more than 4,000 patients annually. 

The new Southeast Family Health Center provides a "whole person" approach that integrates physical and mental health support aimed at improving the overall well-being of the Bayview-Hunters Point community. Learn more about the Southeast Family Health Center.
