Overview

Critical upgrades to our aging water and sewer infrastructure are planned for:

Precita Avenue between Coso Avenue and Bryant Street
Coso Avenue between Coleridge Street and Precita Avenue

This project will include 8-inch ductile iron water main replacement, 16- and 24-inch earthquake resistant ductile iron water main installation, 12-, 15-, and 21-inch vitrified clay pipe sewer main replacement, and pavement restoration.

Construction Start: June 2024
Construction End: May 2026
Project Phase: Construction

Project Background

Underground water and sewer pipes that are approaching the end of their useful life will be upgraded to maintain critical utility services and avoid disruptive emergency repairs.

In addition to replacing water mains and sewer mains, this project will also install earthquake resistant ductile iron pipe that will be part of the seismic backbone for water support to San Francisco General Hospital in the event of an earthquake.

The project will also build curb ramps to facilitate accessibility in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Construction Update October 25, 2024

Sewer Construction Look Ahead:

Week of October 28 – Continue excavation and installation of 21-inch vitreous clay sewer pipeline at Coso and Precita Avenues, proceeding along Coso towards Mirabel Avenue (through Nov. 8). Begin excavation and installation of 15-inch vitreous clay sewer pipeline on Precita Avenue and Shotwell Street, proceeding along Shotwell toward Folsom Street (through Nov. 28).

Week of December 2 -- Begin excavation and installation of 12-inch vitreous clay sewer pipeline at Precita Avenue and Alabama Street, proceeding along Precita to Folsom Street.

Water Construction Look Ahead:

Start of Water Pipeline Construction is delayed until late March or early April 2025.
