June is globally recognized as Pride Month, a time of celebration, commemoration, and activism for the LGBTQIA+ community. It is also a great time to reflect on how the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission can further uplift and support the LGBTQIA+ community.

As we celebrate Pride Month, it's essential to honor and uplift the voices, cultures, and histories of our LGBTQIA+ community. At the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC), we are committed to fostering an inclusive environment that supports LGBTQIA+ rights and acknowledges the contributions of our diverse staff.

As we approach warmer weather and wildfire season, we want you to be prepared in the event of a Flex Alert, PG&E Public Safety Shutoff, or rotating power outages. Although these events are infrequent in San Francisco, preparing in advance is still key.

Michael Giorgis is a Racial Equity Analyst for the Racial Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Team. He has worked at the SFPUC for 3 years and explains the importance of equity through knowledge. “I think there are a lot of resources that we provide that are available to us whether it’s from the PUC or the city. It’s important that we share this information with the entire agency.”

Monday, May 20, began as a normal day of work for SFPUC Biologist Nick Hood and AECOM Sustainability and Climate Resiliency Consultant Tayler Tharaldson. They were set to collect water quality samples on Calaveras and San Antonio Reservoirs, which hold water that is treated and delivered to customers across the Bay Area.
