Hayes Valley Sewer Improvements Project
Overview
As part of the SFPUC's wastewater capital investments, the Hayes Valley Sewer Improvements Project will rehabilitate the existing 100+ year old sewer mains located under several streets located in Hayes Valley.
Construction Update: January 2025
We are ramping up our sewer main and lateral lining sequences, which means that our crews will be implementing the Cured-In-Place-Lining method throughout various project locations in the coming months.
Scott Street
- Expect continuous work from Tuesday, January 14 to Friday, January 17
- Lining hours: 7AM to 4PM
Sutter Street
- Expect continuous work from Monday, January 20 to Thursday, January 23
- Work hours: 8AM to 11PM
- Lining hours: 7AM to 4PM
Oak Street (Laguna to Octavia)
- Expect continuous work from Monday, January 13 to Tuesday, January 19
- Work hours: 10AM to 6PM
- Lining hours: 7AM to 4PM
Oak Street (Octavia to Gough)
- Expect continuous work from Monday, January 20 to Tuesday, January 21
- Work hours: 10AM to 6PM
- Lining hours: 7AM to 4PM

Access to properties will be maintained. Expect noise, vibration, and odor impacts while this work is being completed.

Project Background
Wherever possible and to minimize impacts to the roadway and adjacent residences and businesses, most of the sewer mains will be rehabilitated with a trenchless method called Cured-in-Placed Pipe (CIPP). Where cured-in-place cannot be performed, the sewer mains will be replaced or rehabilitated with open-excavation. Construction will include improvements to sewer lower laterals within the project area, which may also require open-excavation. When completed, this project will increase the reliability of our City’s critical sewer system infrastructure.

What to Expect During Construction
SEWER SERVICE: These services will NOT be interrupted during construction.
PARKING: Street parking will be impacted near construction zones. “No-parking” signs will be posted 72 hours in advance.
TRAFFIC: Partial and/or full lane closures may be necessary to ensure safety of workers and the public. Advance notice and detour signage will be provided, as needed.
MUNI: Passenger loading zone for bus stops may be temporary relocated. Advance notice and detour signage will be provided as needed.
ACCESS: Follow posted signage on site. Driveway access to businesses and residents in the work zone will be maintained during construction.
NOISE: Neighbors may hear construction noise periodically. Noisy work will be conducted in compliance with the San Francisco Noise Ordinance.
ODORS: If necessary, odor control measures will be in place during construction. Please see CIPP page for more information.
NOTICE: A 30-day and 10-day notice will be distributed prior to construction to residents and businesses within the project area before construction begins.
