Hetch Hetchy Water and Power is responsible for maintaining 14 bridges located in the Cherry, Eleanor, and Hetch Hetchy region. A condition assessment has identified the need for rehabilitation and/or replacement (both due to age and to meet current seismic design criteria). Four of the fourteen bridges require substantial modification or replacement and have been combined into this project.
Eleanor Dam and Bridge Rehabilitation - Mitigation alternatives that are being evaluated include concrete repairs, installation of a liner on the upstream face of the dam, valve replacement, installation of riprap for the foundation armoring, and replacement of the existing bridge.
Projected final construction completion: December 2037
The project is part of a larger Hetchy Capital Improvement Program (HCIP), a multi-year capital program to upgrade or improve water conveyance, water storage, and power generation facilities in the Sierra Nevada portion of the Hetch Hetchy Regional Water System.
