Power is more than the energy we provide – it's the leadership, resilience, and impact women have in shaping our communities. At the San Francisco Public Utilites Commission (SFPUC), we proudly celebrate female leaders who have gone above and beyond to drive meaningful change in the energy sector.
Meet one of our trailblazing women in the Power Enterprise: Joanne Wu. In her role as a Utility Specialist for Power Enterprise’s Customer Programs Team, Joanne works on the EV Charge SF Program that provides incentives and technical assistance for properties to install EV charging equipment.

“It feels amazing working with such wonderful people every day to help make a difference for generations to come. Our work here is about creating change for the community," she said.
Women’s Leadership in Energy
Though navigating the energy industry as a woman can present challenges, Joanne finds strength in the women leaders around her at the SFPUC. “The support and encouragement I get from my female colleagues empower me to push limits, embrace growth, and uplift others,” she says.
At the SFPUC, women in leadership roles are creating a culture of empowerment, inspiring one another to make a difference. Joanne shares, “It’s because of the incredible women I work with that I continue to believe in the possibility of positive change.”
Advice for Women in Energy & Utilities
Joanne’s advice for women entering the energy field is "to be curious, explore different paths, and share your journey and goals with your team and create a success plan together,” she recommends. “And always set intentional goals and healthy boundaries to maintain balance in your life.”
“There is no greater advocate for you than yourself,” Joanne says, underscoring the importance of owning your growth and staying true to your purpose.
This Women’s History Month let’s honor the women leading the way in the energy and utilities. If you’re a woman in the workforce, take pride in your contributions and continue to pave the way for others. Share your story, inspire change, and lead with confidence.
