Macy has been the City of Los Angeles’ top human resources official for the last seven years
SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) announced today that it has hired renowned human resources leader Wendy Macy as the agency’s new Chief People Officer.
Macy will lead the SFPUC’s Human Resource Services team and oversee all recruitment and retention for an agency of more than 2,200 staff working in a service territory that stretches from the Pacific Ocean to the Sierra Nevada. Prior to joining the SFPUC, Macy was General Manager of Personnel for the City of Los Angeles, where she led a team of more than 600 to manage Los Angeles’ Human Resources Department. She has more than 20 years of experience leading human resources agencies for public departments, including the County of Sonoma and Los Angeles Unified School District.
“The SFPUC is a leader in the public utility sector because of the tremendous men and women who work here. Wendy Macy is going to help make us even better,” SFPUC General Manager Dennis Herrera said. “Wendy has a proven track record of innovation, problem solving, and creating lasting improvement in public services. I couldn’t be more thrilled to have her join our team at the SFPUC. Wendy is uniquely qualified to further build and enhance our workforce given the complex nature of our work and the current challenges in the labor market.”
“I am thrilled to be joining this exceptional agency as Chief People Officer, and I look forward to applying my HR talents in support of our most valuable resources – our people – in this critical time,” Macy said. “I plan to embark on robust hiring efforts to draw new waves of talent to the agency, and to develop, engage, and enhance a workforce committed to tackling today's challenges.”
Throughout her career, Macy has demonstrated a passion for removing barriers, engaging all stakeholders, and respecting diverse viewpoints. In Los Angeles she hired the city’s first Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer. Macy has also fostered relationships with labor partners and is well-versed in navigating interdepartmental relationships within a municipality. Prior to her experience managing Human Resources operations, Macy practiced as an attorney for several years and has demonstrated strong communication, negotiation, and mediation skills.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Harvard College and her law degree from Harvard Law School.
She is slated to start in her new role on February 22, 2022.
